Wildwood Creek Fest

Acoustics "in" the Creek

WEAR  your creek shoes
BRING  your lawn or creek chair
IMMERSE (at least) your toes in the slow cool cypress creek currents
SOOTHE  while listening to soothing acoustics from one of our local gifted musical creatives
LEARN more about our wonderful local natural environment

Featuring: Donny Lowery & Friends, Max Russell & the Shakedown Kings, Gigi Scott, & David Walton

A creekside private residence right on the most beautiful bend of Cypress Creek.

50 yards upstream of the Nelson Starkey Bridge.  Just around the bend from Wildwood Park.

If you are arriving by land, a shuttle will be circling from downtown to the fest.  Don't attempt to drive directly.  The street will be blocked off, and your car could float away;)

Arriving by water - as far as transport goes your on your own.  Just don't get your ticket "too" wet on the way down.

1985 Raft Race pics11.jpg

Wildwood-where's the raft race?

The Great Cypress Creek Raft Race was an amazing event.  In 1978 I was a senior at Ole Miss attempting to build a fledgling screen printing business.  Dad and I began the first raft race as a way to promote my brand new screen printing business, and sell a few printed t-shirts to new unsuspecting customers (thinking they were entering an event).

The first event contestants were primarily friends, neighbors and family.  But it grew quickly thru word of mouth evangelizing, as well as our almost free marketing scheme of screen printed cardboard signs that were seemingly nailed to every telephone pole in town.

We had continued fun and success through the years until the deadly low head dam was iliegally constructed right in the middle of our path.  We continued the race until we realized just how dangerous the dam was, and ended the event after the 1985 race.  Fortunately no lives were lost during the Raft Race, but too many have been thru the years.

Now that the creek is safe to paddle again, resurrecting The Great Cypress Creek Raft Race is is quite enticing, and has been in discussions for some time.  But for now, if you want to build and race a raft, kayak canoe or inner-tube, you're on your own. . .
