Henry's Mustang Cafe - Woody Anderson Ford
Solid local walnut tabletops in this cool little restaurant sitting in the Woody Anderson Ford dealership. We're currently in the middle of the third phase of this remodel project. It's almost difficult to tell if it's a car service drive thru or a museum! I'll be posting more soon.
U.S. Space & Rocket Center delivery
Several pieces delivered to the CEO's office of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center yesterday. As you can see, they have an "interesting" view.
USGBC's Kathleen Kirkpatrick
It was great to meet Kathleen - our Alabama state director of the huge USGBC. Their nationwide green work primarily in the architecture and construction industries in US are renowned. We are discussing a custom Shoals Creativity Tour for the summer. Friday afternoon we toured my studio, then Saturday we hit the our other primary tour stops; The Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House Museum, the Florence Tourism Center, the Music photo wall tour at the Marriott and more.

Barnett photoshoot today
What fun it was working with Max and Whitney thru the designing/making process. They finally moved into their beautiful new home here in Florence Al in July. This morning we finally got over there and did a photoshoot. Well, let me clarify; I took still pics. Master photographer Bobby Martin was at the helm doing all the video work. As you will see before long, this guy is talented.
Here are a few of the stills i took. Ton's more to go thru, edit a bit. There will be more.
Exhibition reception this afternoon - Museum of Alabama
All friends, family and neighbors are welcome to join me celebrating the opening of this exhibition. 4p to 5p, this afternoon, Alabama Department of Archives and History, Montgomery.
Williams Sonoma
I'll be back at Williams Sonoma this morning - Opening at 10a. It was great fun last week. Photo is of our "board" display from my perspective (is there any other;)? Looks like our resellers are all out of boards. If you need one for Father's Day, it's a beautiful day for a drive to Huntsville Al!
Walnut stair treads and banister railing
A new take on natural edge design. This time we placed the organic edge on the backside of each tread. We also placed it "upside down" from our typical. This way the angled edge of the log is more aligned with the black iron support.
Tennessee River Minnows
84 degrees yesterday and full sun - perfect afternoon for one more swim with Sassafras - and friends.
cherry sculpture
I just ran across this pic that Rusty texted a couple of months ago. Can't wait to get out there and get some even better shots. This was a hollow cherry log - that was slabbed unusually thick-which means it took a couple of extra years to air dry before going into the kiln.
Tourism Center Grand Opening
Congratulations to Debbie Wilson, Libby Jordan, Architect Bob Whitten, and Parallax on another huge success. Clearly the most beautiful, best Tourism building in the State - at least. I can't believe I didn't get any pics of the doors, sign and furniture. I'll be back.
Super rare Sassafras table and - What's up with the black stain?
I'm quite sure it's not. But i've yet to talk to anyone that's seen one close to this size. Quite an amazing story behind this one - I'll share when I get a chance.
btw: the two black/blue stains in the center of each fork. It's typically directly related to metal placed in / around the tree years/more like decades ago. Usually found in city trees. That's why sawmills won't touch a "city" trees. Wreaks havoc on sawmills/blades, production/safety.
We LOVE city trees. The metal stain is something we cherish. It's just a small piece of evidence of the tree's history. You can count growth rings and get a pretty good idea when the metal/nail/horse shoe/fence/whatever was placed in/around the tree. And every once in a while, Im able to save the metal, or better yet (only a few times) leave the metal in the slice/slab.
Before we mill a log into flitches, we first take a look at both ends of the log, looking for metal stain. If there's any sign of it, we find it with metal detector and work around it when we can.
Since we never use stain, keeping the natural color of the tree, there's no consideration of "Hiding" it. Not surprisingly, just the opposite.
Huge walnut bench looking comfy & "less stressed" in his new home
When I designed this bench a couple of years ago, it had MOMA and Ekornes in mind. Really fun to see a vision become . . .
Now, MOMA, i have one with your name on it too!
Hoping to get some great pics of all three pics today.
New beautiful Ekornes showroom in High Point
It was really exciting to see our work in the beautiful Ekornes showroom in High Point yesterday for the first time. If you don't recognize the name Ekornes, you probably know them by Stressless. Linda's been a huge fan of Ekornes for years (absolutely her favorite piece of furniture (after RWF i hope!)
We've been showing in the ShawLiving showroom in High Point (as well as Atlanta and Las Vegas) for years. And now, in High Point you can find us (or at least our work) in the Ekornes Showroom as well.
I'll only be here in High Point today thru Monday noon. If you'd like to make an appointment, just call my cell 256.394.9868, and I will be happy to meet you in either location.
A few pieces in Santa Barbara
Just received these pics from Steve Ainsley, previous publisher of the TimesDaily and recently retired as publisher of the Boston Globe. We made several pieces for he and Ann last year, but just now sent pics.
His home is obviously quite stunning. But I have to say, the cliff top view of the Pacific from their backyard is as well.
